Quantum Waste Prepares for the Ultra Low Emission Zone

February 08, 2016

The arrival of the Ultra Low Emission Zone to London in 2020 will be a challenge for most waste
management companies but an opportunity for Quantum Waste light and local waste collection
systems. The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is an area within which all cars, motorcycles, vans,
minibuses, buses, coaches and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will need to meet exhaust emission
standards (ULEZ standards) or pay an additional daily charge to travel.

The ULEZ will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within the same area as the current Congestion
Charging Zone (CCZ), and comes into force in 2020.

The ULEZ standards are in addition to the Congestion Charge and the Low Emission Zone requirements.

The introduction of the ULEZ will reduce exhaust emissions of NO2 and particulate matter
PM10/PM2.5, making central London a more pleasant place to live, work and visit. However, it will force
a radical change to the way waste is currently being collected in Central London where compactor
trucks will have to be either renewed or will need to pay a hefty £100 fee on a daily basis.

Quantum Waste makes a point not to compact waste during collection to facilitate the separation and
recycling of quality materials later on. As we operate locally we can work with smaller lighter vehicles
that will more easily comply with ULEZ.

Quantum Waste is also ideally placed to introduce the use of electric vehicles into waste collection
activities in the city of London. Despite the rapid growth in the use of electric vehicles,
this would be the first time that electricity alone is used to power a vehicle for the collection
of waste in London.

Quantum Waste was born into innovation and looks forward to growing through innovation. We will
be analyzing the possibility of introducing reliable 100% electric waste collections in London by 2020.
