Global Food Pact Network Saves 220,000 Tonnes of Food Waste — Local Collection Is the Next Step

Global Progress in Food Waste Reduction

A recent report from the Food Pact Network, coordinated by WRAP and featured by LetsRecycle.com
has revealed an impressive milestone: 220,000 tonnes of food waste were avoided in the network’s first year of operation.

The initiative also saw 2.7 million tonnes of surplus food redistributed across nine countries,
involving more than 920 organisations and 550 food businesses working together to tackle waste
and reduce carbon emissions.

This achievement demonstrates the powerful impact of collaboration between governments,
retailers, and local operators committed to reducing food waste and its environmental footprint.
According to WRAP, food waste contributes 8–10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, making
prevention and proper treatment critical for meeting global climate goals.

Turning Waste into Renewable Energy
At Quantum Waste, we see these global results as an encouraging reminder of the importance of
local, practical solutions. Every day, our team collects food waste from businesses across London,
ensuring it is diverted from landfill and processed into renewable biogas and organic fertiliser.

By treating food waste as a resource, not rubbish, we help close the loop between consumption
and energy generation. Each collection we make contributes to reducing methane emissions and
supporting a circular economy.

“The Food Pact’s global success shows what can be achieved when everyone plays their part,” says
the Quantum Waste team. “We’re proud to be part of that same effort here in London, collecting
food waste locally, processing it efficiently, and giving it a second life through biogas.”

From Global Networks to Local Action
While international partnerships drive large-scale progress, local participation is what makes the
system work. Businesses in hospitality, catering, retail, and education all play a vital role in keeping
food waste out of incineration and landfill.

Through Quantum Waste’s food waste collection service, London organisations can:
* Reduce their carbon footprint
* Support the production of renewable energy

Our collections are flexible, transparent, and fully traceable. Each service comes with a Waste Transfer
Note, ensuring full compliance and proof of responsible disposal.
