How our food waste collection works
We use a simplified dual collection system of transparent bags: one for food waste and one for everything else. That means fewer bins to find space for, and it makes it easy for us to identify and separate food waste for recycling rather than incineration or landfill.
Why separate food waste matters
Diverting food waste away from incineration and landfill preserves valuable nutrients that can be used for biogas and fertiliser production. Because we do not use compacting trucks, packaging and other recyclables collected alongside food waste are not crushed, which also helps us achieve higher recycling rates.
Who uses our food waste collection service
